Hello, everyone! I normally write these newsletters on Saturday mornings, but with being deep into novella edits and spending the day with my wife and child at the park having fun, so I’m currently knocking this out on Saturday night at nearly 9pm. Suffice to say, this week is going to be like a fun sized Crunch bar: short and sweet.
Last Sunday I was lucky enough to see the 40th anniversary showing of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi at our local theater. It was fantastic to get to see this film again on the big screen, as I had not experienced it that way since the late 90’s when they first introduced the incredibly divisive “Special Editions” of the original trilogy. Thankfully, parts five and six weren’t as “touched” by George Lucas’s need to add unnecessary CGI where it wasn’t needed. A New Hope on the other hand…
We also got to see Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 this past Thursday evening, and man… What a fucking movie. I’m about as big of an MCU nerd as you’re ever going to meet, and I have to say this one easily makes my top five of the whole series. Heartbreaking and hilarious at the same time. It’s so incredible how well James Gunn can juggle both. I’m sad to see this group have its final adventure, but it was a great send-off. Well done, Mr. Gunn and Company.
This week saw the re-release of Lucas Mangum and I’s Lucio Fulci prose tribute novel THE FINAL GATE!
Late last year, we started to discuss with Sean over at Encyclopocalypse Publications ways to get more eyes on our book. Though people enjoyed the book, we were having a time getting more people to check it out outside of the Italian horror film fans. We decided it just needed a facelift, so Frankie Madrigal came to the rescue and knocked it out of the park, giving it the look of an Enzo Sciotti poster from the 1980’s.
You can check the paperback, e-book, and audiobook out over on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Final-Gate-Wesley-Southard-ebook/dp/B0972JN4B4/ref=tmm_kin_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=&sr=
Or you can buy paperbacks directly from the publisher: https://www.encyclopocalypse.com/product/the-final-gate/89?cs=true&cst=custom
I still have a handful of copies of the first edition of THE FINAL GATE left over at my webstore, now at discount, if you’re just interested in the book and don’t care what version of the book you get. There are two versions available: One that’s just the book by itself (signed, of course) and there’s the book bundle version that comes signed by me, and includes a signed bookplate from Lucas Mangum, stickers, and a bookmark.
You can check that out here: www.wesleysouthardhorror.com
As I said earlier, the second draft of the novella is over half-way completed. If there’s a God, I’ll hopefully be done with it by early next week. After that it will go to my always-excellent pre-reader crew.
Wile E. Young and I had hoped to have this book out this month, but honestly it’s looking more like June now. But that’s okay. We’re already getting the materials put together for a really cool book bundle package for my webstore for you guys, so stay tuned…
Cover reveal also coming very soon!
And that’s it for this week. Again, sorry for the brevity. Hopefully next week can be a bit longer. Until then, I Am Groot!
